The Lakeland Medical Office Association invites you to attend our March luncheon and seminar. This month’s seminar is two presentations in one and will include role-playing scenarios for clarity at the end.
Dr. Birris will be speaking first on how medical stressors affect how patients react to medical staff. Then, Norma Tirado will be talking about how we react to those stressed patients and why - what triggers our bad reactions.
Managing Difficult Patients
Speaker: Jaimie Birris, Psy.D. Clinical Psychologist, Lakeland Cancer Specialists
Managing difficult patients effectively starts with increasing our understanding of why some patients are so difficult. This presentation aims to:
- Help staff to recognize the different types of difficult patients we may encounter
- Learn about mental health disorders which may impact behavior and coping
- Understand why these patients may act the way they do so that staff can more successfully serve these patients and manager their own well-being at the same time
Coping Techniques to Deal with Stressed Patients and Discovering Why We React the Way We Do
Speaker: Norma Tirado, Senior VP of Human Resources, Spectrum Health Lakeland
In order to learn how we can appropriately react to a difficult situation and make things less stressful, we need to look at the four areas of emotional intelligence that need to be developed in order to deal with difficult situations and patients
