CIGNA: COVID-19 Emergeny Period Extended

July 26, 2021

COVID-19 public health emergency period extended through October 17, 2021

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, we have taken important steps to deliver timely accommodations to providers and customers, helping to ensure that customers have continued access to COVID-19 screening, testing, and treatment in safe settings.

Extension of key accommodations

To align with the recent extension of the federal public health emergency (PHE) period, we are again extending the cost-share waiver for COVID-19 testing and testing-related services – as well as accommodations related to provider credentialing – through October 17, 2021. Our interim virtual care accommodations related to COVID-19 also remain in effect until further notice.

Continuing to encourage patients to receive the COVID-19 vaccine

With the highly contagious Delta variant now the dominant variant of COVID-19 in the United States – and with nearly all those currently hospitalized for COVID-19 not being vaccinated – it is more important than ever to help ensure that everyone without contraindications get vaccinated.

While we continue to engage our customers directly on the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine, recent studies have shown that providers and their office staff are the most trusted source of information for their patients who are hesitant about receiving the vaccine. Therefore, we encourage you to continue to engage your patients on the safety, effectiveness, and availability of the vaccine.
