BCBS - E-Referral and Health E-Blue Tools Update

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are transitioning to Availity® Essentials for our provider portal.

Please forward this information to your practices and work with them to ensure that they register for Availity and set up access to the appropriate tools (e-referral and Health e‑BlueSM).

 

e-referral tool

See the provider alert titled Availity® administrators: Set up the e-referral tool within Availity for the steps required to set up access.

If Availity administrators don’t set up access, users won’t be able to access the e-referral tool after we retire Provider Secured Services and web-DENIS on June 21, 2022.

 

Health e-Blue tools

If you or your practices use our Health e-Blue tools, see the provider alert titled Availity® administrators: Set up Health e‑BlueSM tools within Availity for the steps required to set up access.

Important! Be sure to complete all the tasks outlined in the alert, including going into Additional Security Maintenance — Blue Cross/BCN inside of the Blue Cross and BCN payer space.

Note the following differences when setting up access to Health e-Blue at the physician organization/medical care group level versus setting up at the practice level:

  • PO/MCG level: Entities don’t need to add all practices/providers in Express Entry.

  • Practice level: You must add all providers in Express Entry.

In either case, providers won’t appear in Health e-Blue until Blue Cross has approved the access request. The Availity administrator can check the status of requests by logging in to Availity, clicking Payer Space, clicking the BCBSM and BCN logo, clicking Additional Security Maintenance and then clicking the History tab.

Important! Only the provider specialties that are listed in the provider alert (linked above) are eligible for access to Health e-Blue.

Note that we’ll send the attached email message to users of our Health e-Blue tools on May 17, 2022.
