Prognostication of Prostate Cancer in the Era of Expanding Treatment/Management Options: My Perspective After 20 Plus Years

The absolute number and percentage of deaths due to prostate cancer have decreased in the past 12 years. The small drop (2.3%) is significant since the main treatments of prostate cancer (surgery, radiation, and hormonal therapy) have not changed significantly. The main reason for this is serum PSA testing, but whenever you enhance sensitivity of cancer detection, you decrease specificity.
